Shrivenham Range Visit
Taurus Squadron visited the Light Weapons section at the Defence Academy, Shrivenham.
Members of Taurus Squadron visited Shrivenham and received a brief on weapon and ammunition design, looking at the differing requirements for different Armies, prior to being given the opportunity to fire a number of different weapons to demonstrate the design characteristics of each.
Personnel started on the 338 L113-A3 sniper rifle, as used by the British Army, before moving on to the M4, as used by US Forces. They then tried the German G3K manufactured by Heckler and Koch and the Russian AK74, which is used by many forces around the world.
Finally students were allowed to look around the armoury which houses over 1200 different weapons, varying from muskets and canons to sniper rifles and sub machine guns. The collection is one of only a few of this size in which every weapon is fully functional.
