How do I join?
Most entrants to Taurus Squadron come from the Defence Sixth Form College, Welbeck, which is the other part of the Defence Technical Officer Engineering Entry Scheme. This is open to students about to commence their A-Level studies. Students already studying in Further or Higher Education may wish to consider the Direct Entry Scheme.
To apply for entry to the Defence Sixth Form College, contact your local Armed Forces Careers Office and enquire about specific eligibility details; the Birmingham office is located in the Pallasades shopping centre (0121 633 4995). Alternatively you can contact the relevant service directly:
Royal Navy: 08456 075555
British Army: 08457 300111
Royal Air Force: 0845 605 5555
MOD Civil Service: 01225 449368
Specific questions on the DTUS can be raised with the Commanding Officer of the DTUS Support Unit (Taurus Squadron) on 0121 703 6367.
You will still need to apply to Aston University or the University of Birmingham via UCAS (0870 1122211), and indicate on your application form that you are seeking a place on the Defence Technical Undergraduate Scheme.
Additionally, students who are already studying engineering or an approved degree at Aston University, the University of Birmingham, or Oxford University, who are committed to a career in the Armed Forces or MOD Civil Service may enter the scheme directly. To do this you should contact the Commanding Officer of Taurus Squadron, who will be able to advise you further on the application process.
Students who would like to visit Taurus Squadron should phone 0121 703 6391 to arrange an appointment.
